The Missing Shirt and the Plumber

The title of this post sounds like a bad children's novel.  Last night Justin, my 4yr old, came home with a different shirt on. I thought nothing of it.  He always has a change of clothes at school and many times gets something dirty and comes home in different clothes. However, when I went to put his clothes in the wash this morning I found the bag I thought contained his dirty shirt did not contain the missing shirt.  I asked DJ, the husband, to check with his teacher when he dropped him off today. This afternoon DJ called with the story of the missing shirt.

I knew we were in trouble when DJ started the conversation off with, "we are not getting the shirt back."  It seems that yesterday during "potty time" Justin removed his shirt, placed his shirt in the toilet and then proceeded to flush it down.  However, the shirt was not made to flush so now a plumber has been called in to fix the toilet.  Needless to say his teacher and the director are NOT pleased.

Since this is my first post about Justin you may need a little background.  Justin came to us at 10 months as a medical foster placement.  We adopted him along with his full biological twin sisters in 2011.  He has many developmental delays, medical issues and has been diagnosed with autism.  He attends school and daycare.  Both are equipped to work with and address his special needs.

Back to the story at hand....Although I do find the humor in the situation I am also a little irritated. Justin has a really hard time removing shirts.  His coordination is lacking and it takes him some time.  DJ was told there was a teacher in the bathroom with Justin and one other child.  I'm having a hard time understanding how he got his shirt off, put it in the toilet and flushed it without her noticing.  Oh well, at least I have a good reason to buy him more clothes now right?  I also fully intend to embarrass him later in life with this story.
